Most databases default to keyword searching, and it can be a good place to start. To find books related to the broader field of counseling ... try keywords such as: professional counseling, people with disabilities, holistic counseling, substance abuse counseling, grief and loss or vocational rehabilitation.

Once you get a feel for your topic, view some of the detailed records in books you find interesting, and notice the subject terms used to describe the book content. These "controlled vocabulary" (also known as Library of Congress Subject Headings) are hyperlinked, enabling you to do subject searching in the library catalog.
