Graduate Students' Guide to McKillop Library: Find Books

Information for graduate students regarding research, dissertations, and library services.

Searching for Books and E-Books

If you are planning to be on campus and would like to see all the materials the library has access to, including print or hard-copy materials, you can search the library catalogThis includes books, ebooks, DVD and streaming film, and other materials. You can also use the catalog to find books that the library does not own but can request access to through HELIN or Interlibrary Loan.

You can use the catalog search above and restrict your search to ebooks, or if you would like to search ebooks only, you can use the library's Ebook catalog search.

If you are on campus, you can browse the shelves in your subject area. The books in the library are arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification System, which uses an alpha numeric system and puts books on similar topics next to each other on the shelves. In the catalog, find the location and call number of the item you wish to borrow. All books in the "Main Collection" are located on the 3rd floor.

Finding items by call number on the shelves can be daunting at first, so if you aren’t sure, please ask a librarian for help.

The catalog listing for each item includes location, status, and call number information. Items located at McKillop Library have the location Salve. If a book is checked out, its status will list a due date. If an item is not checked out, its status will say available. To find an item on the shelf, use the call number.

Request an Item from Another HELIN Library

If you live nearby or plan to be on campus, you can order books from other HELIN Libraries and they will be delivered to McKillop Library. If you see that a book is "Held by HELIN libraries," you can request a book from one of our HELIN partners.

Click on the book title and then, on the next screen, click on the "Request from HELIN" button.

Enter the requested information and you will be notified by email when your book is available for pickup
